I do not care what anyone tells me, Harvest Moon is an addictive strategic game that just so happens to have a great story that goes in and out of the game. Yes you farm, however once you really realize the depth these games bring you will not stop playing them. Guarented for months of gameplay, the game is that good.

Great review, and thanks for ridding yourself of any embarrassment! You might never have shared this with us! My daughter has this game and I had never thought of trying it. It sounds fun, so I just might have to borrow it from her.

Holy yes, I love Harvest Moon! I've been playing pretty much every single incarnation of it since the Gameboy Color, and my love for it has not abated in the least. I get cravings for the N64 version sometimes and have to dig out my dusty ol' console and battered copy of the game, and then I play for hours on end. And I WOULD be playing the DS version right now if my DS hadn't crapped out on me two months ago...sigh.

Even though it's 'basically' the same thing over and over, game after game, I can not get enough of it. My boyfriend thinks I'm crazy.

Harvest Moon is a fun game, no matter what any ignorant people want to label it. I know plenty of guys who have enjoyed Harvest Moon at some point. It's got the same charm as Animal Crossing. :]

I suffered something similar. It was a couple of months ago and had $100 to spend on absolute garbage, so I decided to pick up a few games for the old 360. I asked the clerk to open the game display and grab Viva Pinata. He gave me this horribly sour look, but said nothing. I had no other solid choice, so I grabbed Bioshock at random, and his expression went from dismissive to excited. "That's a *fantastic* game. I love it." Well, good for you. There are other games out there besides Halo and -surprise- men play them too and get just as much enjoyment out of them as a "girl" would.

Now go plant some flowers while us big boys play with sum of dem guns.

GOD, SUCH A GIRL.
Kidding--and even if you were, I think having tits is a fine thing!
But ya, I've always gotten a lot of shit for my like of certain games. I have a secret love for Animal Crossing, and when everyone finds that out, it's a LULZ TOPIC for weeks. Wait, you're hardcore, you can't like that game. Honestly if a game is fun, then fuck what everyone else thinks. The day I find a Barbie's Big Day Out game fun, I'll play it and share it with everyone.

I never have played any Harvest Moon games before.. but the way you described it made it sound cute and since it's addicting, I know I'll most likely love it! This is coming from someone who still plays Pokemon games RELIGIOUSLY so yeah.. thanks for making my game addictions EVEN WORSE!! *glare*

=P
Rune Factory seems like something I would pick up though hehe. Cute.

I will play any and every Harvest Moon I can lay my hands on, for all the same reasons as you. And what makes it better than other sims (like Animal Crossing, for instance) is that you won't find your town in ruins if you don't touch the game for a while >.>
